[edit] Overly harsh edit comment

Hello. I've just re-read my edit comment of today which read:

"Noted rag historian"? Come on!

Seeing it back, it looks a bit harsh. I just wanted to say quickly that it wasn't meant to be thus. I was just expressing my feeling that there probably isn't anyone who's really notable for being a rag historian. Anyway, just thought I'd apologise on here for what might appear an overly harsh tone - no offence meant! Jamse 23:24, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Etymology

1) If it's true (as the article says) that "Raising and Giving" is a backronym, why is the canonical title of this page in capitals?

Seconded. I've only seen it written as RAG in the last few years. Having sifted through many many rag mags from the last few decades from various unis, it was only ever written "Rag" or "rag". Bath Rag may still have a box of them if you want to investigate. UKRag has a fairly good description of the origins of the term. Huseyx2 18:40, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

2) It isn't known where the name Rag originates, but it is thought to be from the Victorian era when students took time out of their studies to collect rags to clothe the poor. Admit it, this is a wild conjecture :) Has anyone considered the old meaning of "rag", to play a prank? I'll check the OED later. The Wednesday Island 14:37, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History

Some universities have archives that include mentions of Rag. If anybody is willing to spend time on it, here would be a great place to put your findings. Plus, it's wikipedia so it won't matter if it's inaccurate :).

[edit] Barts and The London RAG

I notice that Nottingham and Loughborough get mentions as sucessful RAG organisations, but am certain that our RAG figures at Barts and the London Medical School beat there's per person at the institution. With around 2300 persons in the institution our rag figures for the RAG week 2007 were £131,000 - less than the year before. Equating to roughly £55 per person compared to £35 per person at loughborough (at 17,825 persons).

[edit] Farnborough Sixth Form college Rag

I've put this down (there aren't any news articles on the college website yet) just to show Sixth Forms have rag weeks too :) Amzi (Talk To Me) 18:28, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
