Ragusa (horse)

'Ragusa' (Bay, 1960, by Ribot out of Fantan II) was a champion Irish race horse of the 1960's. Notable wins included the St. Leger (the oldest of the Classic horseracing prizes), the Irish Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Great Voltigeur Stakes, and the Eclipse Stakes. He was third in the English Derby at Epsom in 1963 losing out to his great rival Relko. Ragusa was trained by Paddy Prendegast who had a long and illustrious association with owners J.R. Mullion and Meg Mullion at their Ardenode and Ragusa stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland.
