Raguel (name)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reuel or Raguel (Hebrew: רְעוּאֵל, Standard Rəʻuʼel Tiberian Rəʻûʼēl, "Friend of El"; also דְּעוּאֵל, D'u'el, Standard Dəʻuʼel Tiberian Dəʻûʼēl) is a Hebrew name associated with several Biblical and/or religious figures.

Biblical persons with this name are:

  • Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, who also went by the name "Reuel" (Exodus 2:18). It has been suggested that Reuel was his proper name, and "Jether" or "Jethro" was his official title (i.e., "excellency").
  • A Gadite (Numbers 2:14), called also Deuel. (1:14; 7:42)
  • Father-in-law of Tobias (Tobit 7:1,15)
