He is known for his crude remarks and sharp observation tactics. Also well known to be ruthless and impatient with the contestants when he takes the auditions."Roadies has travel, adventure, drama, touch of voyeurism..." said Raghu Ram, when asked about the show.[1] However, during the show "Behind the scenes", we get to see a different rather softer side of him. He can be seen laughing and having fun with the Roadies crew.

[edit] Career

Raghu Ram was not good at studies also considered as a black sheep at home. After he failed his 12th standard board exams, he ran off from home to Mumbai, where he later joined MTV india. In the earlier days Raghu had immense problems interacting with seniors who were not willing to accept his ideas based on low intellect. But in the year 2000 things changed when Raghu's idea of MTV roadies was accepted as an experimental project by the Mtv India Senior Management. As of March 2008, Raghu Ram remains to be the senior supervising prodcuer and co-creative head at MTV Networks, India. He was recently promoted from his position as a associate executive producer to the executive producer right during one of the show telecasts. Raghu started work at MTV supervising shows like MTV Love Life with VJ's Malaika Arora Khan and Cyrus Broacha and also lead MTV Select and the first few seasons of MTV Super Select with VJ Nikhil Chinapa. Raghu has also lent his hand to various shows at MTV, sometimes being uncredited.

[edit] MTV Roadies

Raghu Ram was given his first solo project, at MTV, in the year 2000. This show was tentatively titled MTV: Find The Road. The show was to revolve around youngsters in the age group of 18 - 24 years traveling around the country on their bikes, based on clues and hints given on the show. The concept of clues was replaced by tasks and challenges by the senior creative heads. The show's format first faced severe criticism from the MTV heads due to its sheer content, audience value and the name, but was later given the green light as an "experimental show that could go off air anytime", after much discussion by the current producers. The name of the show was later changed to MTV Roadies and it has remained the highest rated MTV show for 3 consecutive years. It is also the longest running reality show of India. Initially the show had only one main sponsor (Hero Honda), who also distributed the bikes and contestant gifts. However, the show now has numerous sponsors and co-sponsors including Airtel, Wrangler Helmets, Mountain Dew, Red Fm, etc.Rannvijay was one of the winners of ist season of roadies, who currently works as a VJ at MTV. The second winner was Ayushman, who currently hosts a show called Wassup MTV, along with Gurbaani, who was a runner up of the fourth season. The third season winner was Parul, and Anthony Yeh won the fourth season. The fifth season was won by Ashutosh.

[edit] The MTV Roadies Official Soundtrack

Raghu, along with the creative heads at MTV, came up with a promotional theme song for the show. The song being performed by Agnee has him doing small bits and voice overs in his trademark offensive style. The song was first introduced in the fifth season during the Delhi auditions, with the band performing for the contestants along with Raghu. The album theme got mixed reactions from the viewers, although it was widely appreciated for its new sync and appeal. Most of the members of the band Agnee are close associates of the producers of the show and are recent entries into the world of music.

[edit] Current

Raghu Ram currently resides in Mumbai, and owns a house in Andheri. He also holds 1% of the total MTV India shares in the form of music and television copyrights, like many of the other prodcuers working on the show for the channel. He is currently a full time part of the MTV senior crew. Rumoured to be a clubbing addict, he is often spotted at various clubs and parties all around the city.
