Rafael Zarza Gonzalez

Rafael Zarza Gonzalez (born October 1944 in Havana,Cuba) is a Cuban artist specializing in painting, engraving, graphic design and illustration.

Zarza from 1959-1963, studied drawing and painting at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro” in Havana, Cuba. From 1965 to 1996, he was member of the Taller Experimental de Gráfica (TEG) at the Plaza de la Catedral, Havana, Cuba. In 1982 he was Juror in the Salón de Artes Plásticas UNEAC '82 at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, Havana, Cuba.

Among his must relevant exhibitions can be included in 1972 "Grabados y Dibujos". Galeria Viva México, Caracas, Venezuela. In 1980 he exhibited "Grabados y Carteles de Rafael Zarza". Sala de Exposición, Centro Cultural Arabe, Damascus, Syria. In 1995 he exhibited his works "Tauropatía. Zarza. Obra Gráfica". Galeria Espuela de Plata, Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales, Havana, Cuba. And in 1998 presented his works "30 años no son nada" (litografías 1967-1998). Galeria del Grabado, Taller Experimental de Gráfica (TEG), Havana, Cuba.

He also formed part of many collective exhibitions, among them we can quote in 1961 "Exposición Libre Estudiantes de Bellas Artes de La Habana". Havana, Cuba. In 1967 he was part of the "Intergrafik '67". Internationale Grafik Ausstellung, Altes Museum, Berlin, Germany. In 1969 he was also included in the "Sixième Biennale de Paris". Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, France. In 1984 he participated in the First. Bienal de La Habana Havana Biennial. Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. And in 1999 he was included in the "La Huella Múltiple 1999". Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales/Centro de Conservación, Restauración y Museología (CENCREM), Havana, Cuba.
