Summary: Sembawang, Singapore. 1941. The entrance to RAF Station Sembawang. The sign outside the base reads 'RAF Sembawang, admission by permit only'. During the retreat of the allied forces in the face of the Japanese attack, four RAAF squadrons passed through Sambawang. These were No. 1 and No. 453 Squadrons, flying Brewster Buffalo fighter aircraft, and No. 1 and No. 8 General Reconnaissance Squadrons, flying Lockheed Hudson Bombers. (Donor: A. Blake)
