[edit] Hmm
Raekwon's the man. Not only my favorite Wu member (with Ghostface being 2nd), but he's on my top 10 list, the King of Staten Island. Very lyrically gifted with probably the illest sounding voice of any other Rapper and a fast-paced off the wall flow. "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..." is top 5 for me.--Tainted Drifter 08:00, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
In the late 1980's The Chef "cooked" up and tested such a potent batch of crack cocaine that he suffered a cocaine induced stroke. This stroke was later attributed to spawning Raekwon's signature slurred speech, known as "marble mouthin'"[citation needed].
who the hell said that? anyone got any proof of that? --Suntzulive
Ya sounds like BS to me. I follow Wu a lot and have never heard that before.
The name "Shallah", an abbreviated form of Shallah Raekwon, was listed in the acknowledgements for The Genius' debut album, Words from the Genius, and he also appeared in the video for the song back in 1991. Raekwon and various members of the Wu-Tang Clan used to refer to him as Shallah Raekwon in the early days (1993-1994).
As for "the chef" reference, Raekwon himself admitted in numerous interviews pre-1996 that it was a reference to his love for kung fu movies, and he noticed that sometimes the chefs or cooks at Shaolin temples weren't always working, they were listening and would often have secret fighting techniques that were uniquely their own. That metaphor would be applied to him as a rapper, just as all of the members of the Wu-Tang Clan would discuss their "special techniques". Some of the kung fu movie references would fade out as Raekwon began to place an emphasis on gambino-styled lyrics. That would include appearing in promotional photos of him "cooking up" cocaine on a kitchen stove, which had nothing to do with the reason he called himself "The Chef". --Johmbolaya —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 04:01, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

No, 1970 would be the correct date. None of the websites in your citations can be considered definitive, but gather their information from places like Wikipedia & IMDB. The bio's page on the offical Wu-Tang website [7] clearly states 1970.
The Wu-Tang Manual also has 1970. Case closed.--Hip hop17 19:09, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, the truth is no website can be fully accurate. Take Method Man for example. On the official Wu-Tang homepage they say his birthday is April 1, yet Method Man himself said on tracks that he has the same birthday as Dr. Seuss, which is March 2; and that he is a Pisces. So, yeah, who knows.--Tainted Drifter 03:12, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
