[edit] TV Article names

I've noticed you have moved a few TV articles. I'd like to point you to WP:NC#Broadcasting and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations#Article_names. It looks like you've been renaming articles to 'K/Wxxx (TV)'. This should only be used if there is need for a disambig page or if there are other stations (AM or FM) that use the callsign. All other stations (most of them acutaly) should be named with just the call letters. I'll go ahead and move the pages I've found to the proper name as it looks like you've stoped edditing for the night. Looks like because you edited the 'Wxxx' pages I can't do a simple move. I've put in a request for an admin to help out with the move here. They should be moved in a day or two. On a personal note, I'm happy to see another editor who cares enough about callsigns to have moved a page. I've been working on all of the Kxxx stations, if you wanted to start on the Wxxx stations I'd appreciate it. I've got a few templates that I use when moving pages, I just do a search replace for $CALL$ with the callsign of the station and use them as described. I moved Recorder warning tone (US) to Recorder warning tone, as you requested on Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion. For future reference, requests like this should go on Wikipedia:Requested moves.

I also edited Recorder warning tone to say that the "half-second burst of 1400 Hz applied every 15 seconds" is US-specific, as I assume that other countries have other conventions. I'd appreciate it if you could check my edit. Cheers, Jitse Niesen (talk) 20:27, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Upon further investigation, I would like to point out that I requested the moves here. The reason for this is that the naming convetion of US TV stations is that they be named after the fcc callsign, and should only have (TV) in the name if there is need of a disambig page. Another station with a different call sign on another service is usualy not enough. i.e. (WJCL-FM). —A 07:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

I was not the one that initated or preformed the move, but once again I'll point you to WP:NC#Broadcasting. There are no other stations (TV, AM, or FM) with the call sign of WTBS. You don't see other radio station with unbolded Station Management titles or specifc day on the Station Line-up. In other words, leave the article alone and stop vandalising the article or I report you to administrator and have the article locked.

I am in the process of moving TV station articles to the proper name based off of the station's FCC call sign per the naming convention I've mentioned to you before, and I'm prepping to move 4-5 articles in the Atlanta market. Based on previous remarks you have made, I think that you might object. So rather than starting in on a revert/move war, I thought I'd put the situation up on a page and ask for input first. I have reverted your redirect on Green Shield Stamps to S&H Green Stamps, but placed co-links between the two articles. Simply put, most of the article on Green Shiled Stamps refered to the UK/Ireland operation, and not the North American parent company. The simple merge you undertook didn't make this clear, or the final article you created factually correct - ie, different strategies were applied in different territories: and who the blow are Tesco in North America? Secondly, re your comment on Google rankings: much as though what you stated is factually correct, that's 60m UK residents creating 10k searches, and 300m Americans making 40k searches - so much as though the overall Google statisics may be correct, the ranking for Green Shield searches on Google UK would be higher. I notice you've been changing several articles from "bit rate" to "bitrate". Are you sure this is correct and necessary? May I know how? (I'm curious where one turns to in cases like this.) Considering the initialisms "VBR", "CBR", etc., as well as a dictionary search, I'd have thought "bit rate" is the correct term.

In any case, if you're going to do it, remember to do a thorough job — the Bitrate article is a redirect to Bit rate, and only mentions "bit rate" throughout. Do you really want to change *all* instances of "bit rate" in all articles, when it was already consistently in one form? --Shreevatsa 16:26, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Also, both pages Variable bitrate and Variable bit rate exist now, please make one of them redirect to the other.
Bitrate and Bit rate are synonomous. The separated term, "bit rate" shows many more hits on Google, though, implying that "bit rate" is the more often used term. Similar terms, such as "framerate", imply that concatenating the words is perfectly acceptable. Interestingly enough, though, "baud rate" is never concatenated to "baudrate". However, you should be consistent when using the term within the same article. Bitrate actually has both uses of the term in the same sentence!
The problem, Radiojon, is that you seem to be stomping all over WP, imposing your personal style on other articles. I can understand choosing one term over another when writing your own articles, but editing dozens of articles just to change the title, case names, or remove the space between "bit" and "rate" is excessive. It's okay to fix mistakes, but you really should adhere to the policies when it comes to things like moves (for example, you moved an article I created without any discussion), and you should refrain from changing something when the only change your making is style - especially since your style seems to be in conflict with the official style manual.
It's okay to have your own way of doing things. In your own publications, that's great. But when working with a group, any group, you need to conform to the group's style guidelines, even if you don't like them. I have often had to work with style guidelines I didn't agree with, and while I chafed at first, I quickly learned to accept and even adopt that style.
Don't get me wrong. Your contributions are valuable, and your insight is appreciated. You made a great find on the XM/Sirius article. But please follow the rules; don't keep moving articles without discussion, and don't edit articles for style unless you know that the existing style is incorrect.

When possible disambig pages should not have "(disambiguation)" in the title, the only reason some pages do is that they are forced to e.g. United States forces the diambig page to be at United States (disambiguation), if you see what I mean. Martin 18:23, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Please stop lower casing things such as lists and categories!, it is the reverse of the manual of style, see for example Wikipedia:List guideline where it says "As a matter of style, list items should start with a capital letter.". Martin 10:29, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Information cited on the TBN digital services template is incorrect. According to the website linked in the template, [1], Tribune Broadcasting requested ATSC channel 75, not Trinity Broadcasting. With regard to the move you keep making of Ballast (electrical) to Electrical ballast, please stop it. You haven't discussed this move at all and you're leaving many, many pages with Wikilinks that point to the redirect. The proper way to do a move like this is:

  1. Discuss is first, and
  2. Be willing to fix all the pages that are left with links to the now-redirect page.

It isn't just a question of fixing the now-broken double-redirects. You are expected to fix all the in-links so none of them are via the redirect. This saves problems in the future should someone move the page again (when they will ecay into double-redirects).

I have already asked you to respect the accepted styles that wikipedia uses, yet you are still enforcing what is apparently your own personal style, regardless of the fact that 1000's of other editors are working hard to implement the generally accepted styles. For example this edit is totally contrary to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). And you are still lower casing lots of stuff that should not be.
