[edit] History

Radnor Middle School was originally built in the 1920s and used to be Radnor High School. Eventually, as both the demand for a bigger building and admissions to both the middle and high schools grew, the two were separated. The old middle school was demolished in 2007. ===New Middle School===

The new middle school is a green building and features geothermal walls, a green roof, and geothermal heating and cooling.

When the new Middle School's construction was completed, Anthony Stevenson (formerly Assistant Principal at Radnor High School) took over the role as principal[1].

[edit] Athletics

Radnor Middle School has some school sports teams in the PIAA leagues. The head athletic director is Mr. George Hahn (8th Grade advanced mathematics teacher), and the associate athletic director is Mr. CJ Herceg (wood shop/tech ed. teacher). All the teams are offered only to 7th and 8th graders only, with a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team (except for football, wrestling, and volleyball). The teams are as follows:

[edit] Fall Athletics

  • Unlimited Weight Football (115 lbs. and up)
  • 115 Pound Football (115 lbs. and down)
  • 7th and 8th Grade Boys Soccer
  • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Soccer
  • 7th and 8th Grade Field Hockey
  • Volleyball
  • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Tennis

[edit] Winter Athletics

  • 7th and 8th Grade Boys Basketball
  • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Basketball
  • Wrestling

[edit] Spring Athletics

  • 7th and 8th Grade Boys Baseball
  • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Softball
  • 7th and 8th Grade Boys Tennis
  • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Lacrosse
  • 7th and 8th Grade Boys Lacrosse

There also is an ice hockey team that is not associated with the school but plays under the name of Radnor Middle School Ice Hockey. They compete currently in the IMSHL, or the Iceline Middle School Hockey League (a rink in West Goshen township). The organization is the middle school of the officially, school recognized Radnor High School Ice Hockey Team, the Radnor Raiders. As of December, 14th, 2007, their record is 1-7 and are currently last in league standings. Their losing record is primarily due to lack of chemistry amongst the team which reportedly has had repeated issues with complaints about playing time.

[edit] Awards and recognition

Radnor Middle School is a blue-ribbon school. Radnor Middle was a cover story on the Philadelphia Inquirer because of its eco-friendly building.

Radnor Middle School is also notable for its Watershed program, a integrated learning program in which 40 7th grade students have a separate curriculum, focused on studying the dynamics of the watershed they inhabit and its history. It is currently in its 21st year and schools all over the country often send representatives to observe and bring the program back to its own communities[2].
