Radio Indigo

Radio Indigo is the name of a FM radio station operating out of Bangalore, India. As of October 2007, it is the only music station in India to play exclusively international music as opposed to regional and national content. The station is owned by Jupiter Capital, part of Rajeev Chandrasekhar's new group formed in 2005.

With a library of 14,000 songs, Radio Indigo by far houses the largest collection of International music in the country today[citation needed]. Radio Indigo plays an array of genres of music from pop, classic rock, hip-hop, Rap, Jazz, Country, Dance, World music and more. On weekends, the station plays internationally produced programming, such as Casey Kasem's American Top 20, Ryan Seacrest's American Top 40, DJ Matt Darey's Indigo Nocturnal and the Putumayo World Music hour.

Radio Indigo broadcasts on 91.9 megahertz from Bangalore and features Radio Jockeys such as Geoffrey Thomas, Malavika Varadan, and Rohit Barker.

Bangalore based DJ Ivan and Rohit Barker host a dance music show called 'Indigo Hotmix' featuring dance music from around the world. Radio Indigo also broadcasts the country's only jazz show 'Indigo & Blues' hosted by Jazz artiste Radha Thomas.

Bangalore has a total of 12 FM stations, the highest in India[citation needed]. During the auctioning of the FM slots, there were six successful bidders, while one slot remained vacant and will be filled up in next round of FM radio bidding in February 2007. FM stations in Bangalore are:

  • 11am-2pm: Day Trippin` (with Meghana Dhawan)
  • 2pm-5pm: Indigo Jukebox (with Ayesha D`Souza)
  • 5pm-8pm: Cruise Control (with Rohit Barker)
  • 8pm-10 pm: The Big Couch (with Malavika)
  • 10 pm - 1am: Night Patrol (with Geoffrey Thomas)
  • 1 am -3am: Lights out

Towards the end of January 2006, three private FM radio players - linked to the Indian media giant Times of India, Rajeev Chandrasekhar's Jupiter Entertainment Ventures, and the mega corporation Anil Ambani-linked Adlabs - won bids to set up private FM radio stations in Goa. Radio Indigo at 91.9 MHz launched in Goa in June 2007. Radio Indigo programming is contemporary international music and international hit music. The station cued on to Goa's listening culture plays an hour of Gospel music every Sunday morning at 6 am. 'Indigo in the saddle' is an exclusive country music show hosted by Jeffrey Manuel aired every Sunday between 11 am and 1 pm.
