[edit] History

For over ten years Radio Hartlepool’s Managing Director and Project Coordinator Jason Anderson has worked towards the goal of a local radio station for Hartlepool. Since 1995 Jason has worked and studied local radio, visiting and meeting Radio Management teams from all around the country, attending broadcast and media fairs both nationally and internationally, in an effort to bring Local Radio to Hartlepool.

“All through the development of my project, I believed that a Hartlepool Radio Station must be ultimately run and managed by the people of Hartlepool.”

Jason and his broadcasting team completed the last of three 28-day trial broadcasts on FM in December 2004, which led to the submission to Ofcom for a full time Community Radio Broadcasting Licence.

[edit] Team

The team of managers, staff and volunteers Jason has brought together are local to the town and committed to the principles of Community Radio. The station previously broadcasted from the Grand Hotel in the heart of the town. After the success of the FM license application with Ofcom we have now secured our own dedicated premises in York Road, and currently fitting these out to broadcast live from this new location. Radio Hartlepool’s state of the art studios are comparable to those of any commercial competitors, and after our change of premises we are taking the opportunity to upgrade and further develop our technical facilities.

Jason has brought together a group of business and Community leaders to act as Community Directors. These are Sir Ron Norman OBE, Geoff Hainsworth Dip Ed (Retired School Master & Round the World Yachtsman), Keith Thomas (Respected Charity & Media Accountant), James Anderson (retired architect and radio engineer), Joe Metcalf (Local Businessman), Louise Anderson (Radio Industry), Danesh Kholi (Local Businessman) and Russell Hart (JP & Retired Council Leader). Each of these noted individuals has publicly expressed enthusiasm for the Community Radio Project. These official directors are backed up by an ever growing team of volunteers recruited locally, providing skills and points of view to the station.

[edit] Accountability

The station claims to be fully accessible and accountable to the people of Hartlepool. "We are open to any group or individual, given appropriate notice, to visit our studios and to meet a member of our team." The station's website notes that it is intended to grow as a community resource for information and comment.
