In 2004, 9 Radar supporting poles have been installed in Italy for sea survey purpose. These poles are designed for extreme climatic conditions (222 km/h wind speed, with 24 square meter on the top). The tilt angle of the radar must not exceed 0.5° under a 160 km/h wind.
The pole has been designed using as a targeting tower.
Many tests have been conducted on a special test platform. One test uses 2 cameras fixed on the top of the same pole. One camera is fixed on the platform and one camera on the mast. The towers have been installed by an Italian pole manufacturer based in Bologna - Siderpali - for Alenia Marconi Systems.
