[edit] Summary

An image of part of a performance of The Radium Girl illusion. This is a frame captured from a home recording of a BBC television programme. The image shows magicians Jeffrey Atkins and Paul Daniels with assistant Jackie. It is believed by the uploader that the performance dates from the late 1970s or early 1980s but no conclusive information is available.

The programme in question is not commercially available as a recording and is not currently part of any broadcast schedule. Although it is possible that an archive copy exists in the BBC library it is known that many BBC shows from past decades were lost because tapes were re-used or otherwise wiped. It is therefore possible that images such as this and the viewer recording it was taken from are the only remaining conclusive evidence of the performance. Even if the original footage was available commercially, this image is of a lower quality than any that might be taken from a first generation recording.

This image is historically significant in that this illusion was rarely performed, it is not in current repertoires and there are very few other visual records of its existence. This is almost the only surviving pictorial evidence of the illusion and the only example that might be available within Wikipedia's licensing rules.

This image is being used for informational purposes in that it illustrates the existence of the illusion and the general scale and shape of the props.
