Rachel Roy is a Manhattan-based fashion designer. She first became well-known as the romantic interest of Damon Dash, the hip hop businessman.[1] They married on January 15, 2005 and have a daughter named Ava.

Her father is a first generation indian (tamil) immigrant and her mother is of dutch ancestry [2]. Roy grew up in Northern California in January 1975, and graduated from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland with a degree in communications.[1] Her primary reason for attending this Christian university was due to the demands of her parents, particularly her father, who is a Seventh-day Adventist. Dash and Roy have welcomed a sister for Ava. Tallulah Ruth was born May 13, 2008

Rachel's first job in fashion was at a Contempo Casuals clothing outlet in her hometown at age 14. After college, she came to New York City, where she worked as a stylist for magazines and music videos[3]. She became an intern at the urban fashion line Rocawear, where she rose to become creative director of the women's and children's divisions and also met her future husband. In 2005 she launched her own eponymous fashion collection. In early 2006 Roy received a Bollywood industry award for her contribution to American fashion[1].
