Rachel Cheung

Rachel Cheung (張緯晴) is a young classcial pianist born in Hong Kong. She has won numerous prizes and awards in Hong Kong and overseas and performs regularly in Europe and America.[1] [2]

Rachel started piano lessons at the age of four and was later admitted to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as a junior student studying under Professor [Eleanor Wong (pianist)|Eleanor Wong]], Artist-in-Residence and Senior Lecturer.[1] She is currently studying full-time with Professor Eleanor Wong at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts on a full scholarship from the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation.

In 2001 she won First Prize in the Hong Kong regional competition of the Steinway and Sons International Youth Piano Competition. At her first competition in Europe, she claimed the First Prize at the 2002 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales. In May 2003, Rachel won the First Prize at the “International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz” in the Ukraine. Apart from winning the Gold Medal, she was also awarded three special prizes from the jury including the prize for the “Most Outstanding Concerto Performance”. In America in June 2004, she won the First Prize and a ‘Peer Jury Prize’ for the most popular finalist at the 2004 Gina Bachauer International Junior Piano Competition in Salt Lake City..[1]
