Rachel Brown (born July 2, 1980) is an English footballer, currently playing as goalkeeper for Everton Ladies and England Women.
After a long spell out with injury, Brown returned to the England team against Sweden in the last group game of Women’s Euro 2005.
Brown earned a football scholarship in the United States where she played for the University of Alabama and the University of Pittsburgh. She was named Goalkeeper of the Year for the Eastern Conference every year and also holds the University record for the least goals conceded in a season.
One of Brown’s earlier career highlights saw her take part in the 1996 FA Women’s Cup Final at 15 years old with Liverpool.
Having played eight matches at England U18 level, Rachel proved her potential when she appeared as a last minute replacement in the England Senior team and helped them qualify for the European Championships in November 2000, in the play-off second leg victory over Ukraine.
After impressing at her home club Burnley as England beat Australia 1-0 in September 2003, she was asked to turn on the Christmas lights in Burnley – but she had to cancel as she was playing for England as they beat Scotland 5-0 in November at nearby Preston. Brown missed last season’s FA Women’s Cup Final defeat to Charlton on her comeback from injury, but is hoping to take The Toffees one step further this season.
