Rabbinical Seminary International
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rabbinical Seminary International (RSI) is a rabbinical seminary located in New York City. RSI was founded in 1955 by the renowned Hungarian Hasidic Rabbi and Kabbalist Dr. Joseph H. Gelberman, a graduate of City University of New York and Yeshiva University, who is also known as a pioneer in inter-religious dialogue.
The Rabbinical Seminary International is a transdenominational rabbinical seminary in the Neo-Hasidic tradition which offers a profound and innovative ordination (semicha) program that emphasizes the Modern Rabbi's role as a spiritual facilitator, counselor and healer and practical aspects of Rabbinical service rather than expertise in Jewish law.
Graduates serve affiliated and non-affiliated congregations in North America and around the world, fulfilling the spiritual needs for renewal of contemporary Beth Yisrael. Due to the highly limited curriculum graduates of this program have been unable to join any national association of rabbis - other than the alumni association of the seminary. Leaders in the Jewish community have spoken of this program as being " ... the rabbinic equiavlent of a diploma mill".
