Rabbel II Soter

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rabel II Soter (ar-Rabil) was the last King of the Nabateans, ruling from 70 until 106 AD.

After the death of his father, Malichus II, ar-Rabil ascended to the throne while he was still a child. His mother, Shaqilath, assumed control of the government in the early years. His sister, Gamilath, became queen of the Nabateans. Ar-Rabil gave himself the name "Soter" ("Savior of the People"). After his death, the Roman emperor Trajan faced practically no resistance and conquered the Nabatean empire on March 22, 106. Nabatea became a Roman province, Arabia, with Bosra as its capital.

Ar-Rabil's successor was Malichus III.
