The Raúl Leoni Municipality is one of the 11 municipalities (municipios) that makes up the Venezuelan state of Bolívar and, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 47,167.[1] The town of Ciudad Piar is the shire town of the Raúl Leoni Municipality.[2]

The Raúl Leoni Municipality, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, has a population of 47,167 (up from 36,654 in 2000). This amounts to 3.1% of the state's population.[3] The municipality's population density is 1.3 people per square mile (0.83/km²).[4]

The mayor of the Raúl Leoni Municipality is Gilberto Antonio Villarroel Carvajal, re-elected on October 31, 2004 with 52% of the vote.[5][6] The municipality is divided into three (four if you count the Capital Raúl Leoni section) parishes; Barceloneta, San Francisco, and Santa Bárbara.[7]
