Raíces (or Roots) (1979) is an album by Uruguayan singer/songwriter Jose Barroso. Unlike his later music with Los Barroso (which saw Jose drawing from a wider range of Latin influences), Raíces mostly works within the framework of canto popular, relying mostly on Barroso's tenor like voice and folk style guitar playing. The album contains next to no overdubs or extra instrumentation. This is a huge contrast to Barroso's next project Songs of the Latin American People which takes full advantage of flutes, electric guitar, drums, and synthesizers.
