[edit] "Monitoring my userpage"

By monitor my userpage, I mean update my userboxes instantly when they get moved. Thanks for the other advice, though.--MasterA113 13:14, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Thanks for your support in my recent RfA which passed unanimously - thus proving that you can indeed fool some of the people some of the time. I'm still coming to terms with the new functionality I have, but so far nothing bad has happened. As always, if there's anything you need to let me know, just drop me a line on my Talk page. [edit] Read to adopt: Video Game Programming is my interest!

I am a Video game programmer and I am creating a gaming engine and was wondering how to create your own page. I am a newbie and was hoping you could adopt me and look though my page. Let me know if you can adopt me.

PS>> How do you check to see if someone has responded besides comming back to this page? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gamersforsale (talkcontribs) 03:02, 3 March 2007 (UTC).

Yes, my identical copy of bucket-and-mop =]

Thank you for supporting me in my RfA. Thanks for your vote, I've received an overwhelming 96% support and successfully took a copy of bucket-and-mop from the main office!

School graduation exam and HKCEE are both pressing in, so I might become inactive for a while. But soon after that, I look forward to working with you! --Deryck C. 03:32, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

Maybe we should end this, don't you think? :P --Taraborn 12:19, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

That depends on you. You haven't really asked me that much. Do you think you've learned enough to end the adoption? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 15:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
The thing is that actually I didn't need much help to figure out things. Anyway, if I have a particular doubt I think I can ask you or anyone else or just read help pages. --Taraborn 15:11, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
He, he. Nice userbox in my userpage :) --Taraborn 20:58, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RfA thanks

Hi, Teckwiz. I'd like to say thanks for your support and kind words at my RfA. To know that so many people have faith in me enough to hand me the tools is very pleasing, if not a little overwhelming at the level of said support. Keep up your good work, no doubt we will meet again around the various areas of Wikipedia I have seen you! Bubba hotep 20:45, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for sorting out the false warning

Thanks for sorting out the unfounded warning by another Wikipedian (not sure what role he has) on my talk page last night (my ip-page). Although I was frustrated over the warning, I was just as impressed over the speedy resolution.

Baard71 17:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Your welcome! --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 21:33, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Questions, questions! Or "Your help with my AFD"!

I'm curious then, should we only nominate for subsequent deletions when the page wasn't previously deleted? If so (and reading CSD I think so...), how long should a page stay deleted before it should be deleted again? Sorry for all the questions! --Xnuala 23:19, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

If a page is re-created after an xFD is closed as delete, and the new article doesn't fix the problem, it can be deleted right away. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:11, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank-you, good to know for the future!--Xnuala 00:22, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rfa thanks

Hey! just popped by to say thanks for supporting my Rfa which passed yesterday! I'm honoured to serve the community, and any questions - let me know! No doubt I'll be seeing you soon enough though on WP:RFCN Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 20:01, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption?

I'm a new Wikipedia user, and I'd like someone to sort of 'show me the ropes' of wikipedia. I'm not really into video games though, so I'm leaving notes on a couple of Talk pages so I can see whether there are others who share my interests. However, you seem well-versed in Wikipedia, so I thought I'd ask whether you were still open for adoptees?

I would be happy to adopt you, however, where did you get the idea that I was into videogames. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure, come to think of it. I had some extra time today, so I've been browsing adopter's pages. I suppose I just mixed you up with someone. Just curious... do you take any languages?Corvus coronoides 23:22, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Italian. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:23, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

That is certainly a language I would like to learn. Will you adopt me?Corvus coronoides 23:30, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I only speak basic Italian. Would you still like me to adopt you? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:32, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Of course. I'm not expecting you to teach me the whole language! I just like picking up bits and pieces of languages from people, and my knowledge of Italian extends to Buon Giorno. Corvus coronoides 23:36, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay. I'll probably adopt you official by the end of the night. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:37, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! Do I need to do anything? Corvus coronoides 23:41, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal

Your removal of the elimination information from the Amazing Race 11 article is completely unnecessary as it had just finished in the eastern time zone and I added the information about the end of the race. The elimination station video hasn't played yet but that does not give you the excuse to delete the information. Xtreme racer 01:28, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I know it just finished. I'm in EST. However, since no special info from the Elimination Station video is available yet, there is no need to have it, as I said in my edit summary. Saying Rob and Amber were the fourth team to arrive after leg 4 is inferred and unneeded. And I agree with you that general finish info should be available right away, and not when "everybody has seen it". I didn't give that reason. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 01:31, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Amazing Race

Hah, i'm found something interesting. But if you don't want to spoil it. Don't read it. Strange the first three legs of elimination result is match. So, what could i say... [1] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aleenf1 (talkcontribs) 16:40, 8 March 2007 (UTC).

  • Thanks for leaving the spoiler on the race winner...Let's just ruin it for everyone.--RexRex84 02:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Do you mean that in a sarcastic tone, or do you actually mean thanks for the warning? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 02:10, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
      • More sarcastic; I think the section should be removed or otherwise altered as I inadvertently saw the list after scrolling past the very short spoiler warning.--RexRex84 04:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Age + Grammar

I must say, you have incredible grammar for a 12 year old. I'm used to seeing stuff like this:

Liek OMGZZM!!!!!! I LUV HUR!!111!!11111 OMGZ OMGD ADASED1!!

I think I hurt myself from typing all of that. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I wish you the best of luck when it comes to your studies. Now I'm off to mess around with my User Page...again. Arrowhead1 00:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Most kids I know have good grammar (I've only been speaking and hearing it for 12 years :)). Grammar on the computer for other kids is a whole different story. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:16, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I really do not understand why people type like that. I once asked someone about this, and they said that "it was easier." Being a Grammar Nazi, I find this very troublesome. What has this country come to? What really bothers me, though, is the fact that these very people will probably make more money than all of us. Arrowhead1 00:21, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your report to AIV

Hi. You recently reporting IP 71.246.118.156 to WP:AIV. I have removed this report after looking at the users contributions, as their only edits today consisted of blanking their talk page. Please be aware that since this is an IP address, it's entirely possible that it is a brand new user that hasn't vandalized anything, and thus doesn't understand why there are warnings on their page. Also, blanking one's own usertalk page does not constitute vandalism. If there's something I've missed, please let me know! Natalie 22:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

The user recieved a warning today by another user. The anon then took out the warning. The warning today was a final. Also, warning shouldn't be removed immediately, if it was in good faith, the anon would have waited a little. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:41, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
There contribs] show only two edits on March 16th, both of which are to blank their talk page, and are separated by almost 24 hours exactly from the last edits. And in all the discussions about removing warnings not being vandalism, no one has mentioned the time between the warning and the removal. The general consensus has been that removing warnings is not vandalism, no matter what. Natalie 22:44, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay. I think I found what happened:User vandalized yesterday. They were not warned until today. It was with a final warning. They then blanked their page, and I reported it. Also, the warning shouldn't be removed right away because they determine what the next level should be. (User A. warns User B.. B. immediately removes the warning, then vandalizes again. User C. comes to warning vandal, but sees no warnings, so starts at level one, instead of level 2 or higher.) --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:52, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I understand what you're saying about the warnings, and I generally agree with you, but the overall consensus has been that it is inappropriate to block someone for removing warnings from their page. Even though I think removing warnings is bad form (unless they're obviously in error), I would not block someone for it, and I don't think any other admin would either. Feel free to start up the discussion again somewhere, but it's been discussed a lot and the consensus hasn't changed for a long while. Natalie 23:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not saying they shouldn't be removed. I'm saying they shouldn't be removed right away. i believe the current consensus is about a week. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:16, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Strange revert

Sorry, I didn't mean to. I was just on Recent changes and reverted by popups, but accidentally after you had, so it must have screwed it up. Reywas92Talk 23:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation email

I've had a go at the wording of the draft email at User:TeckWiz/Sandbox to make it easier for someone unfamiliar with Wikipedia to understand the process. See what you think... WjBscribe 23:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the expansion. And in the future, you don't have to notify me. All pages I edit are automatically added to my watchlist, and I've edited my sandbox, so I saw it before you even left the message. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation

Erm, user:Jonny doesn't seem to have an email address set... WjBscribe 02:49, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Opps. Sorry. That's strange. I though the e-mail this user link only appears if the user has e-mail enabled. Maybe it used to be like that, or maybe I'm just imagining. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 02:51, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
No harm done- easily changed. I had an edit conflict with you on tagging it with {{CUU}} so thought it was odd our tags were different. WjBscribe 02:53, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

[edit] My Bot

I simply use the "what transcludes here" feature to make lists on AWB of warning templates and then filter the results to remove duplicates and to remove anything that is not in the User talk namespace. --NickContact/Contribs 17:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My bot

Thanks for the approval. However, could you also approve me on the AWB page, as I'm not an admin. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:23, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Done. —METS501 (talk) 00:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Username changes and edit counts

Hi, me again :-) (sorry...). Re [2]. Although usurpation is reserved for editors whith a sizeable edit history (to make sure popular names are actually used), there is no such requirement for ordinary username changes. Crats have in the past complained that telling low edit count usernames just to create a new account is unwelcoming to newer users. Given that renames are done at the click of a button, they are little effort and there seems no reason to deny them based on edit count. WjBscribe 02:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay. Will note (adding to list including all users have an e-mail link, but it doesn't mean they have an e-mail) :). Thanks! --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 02:39, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your bot

Hi Teckwiz. Your bot's edit summaries say substing "user warnings;" would you consider modifying this to say something along the lines of "messages" instead of or alongside warnings? Welcome messages aren't warnings, last I checked. Picaroon 23:09, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay, it's changed. I've had it as warnings because it only substs the warnings in the category "user warning templates", meaning that the welcome templates must be in that category. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Also, would it be easy to have the bot ignore the four templates at the top of the category, which are not meant to be subst'ed? They're probably not often used in user talk space (I happened to have a talk-page sandbox which your bot replaced), but if the change would be minor it might be a good idea. Λυδαcιτγ 01:45, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I see no reason to, as the bot only subst in the user talk namespace. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 01:56, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/JXM

Thanks for the suggestion to close it myself instead of waiting for a bureaucrat. I've seen that some users get very discouraged after an unsuccessful RfA, and I don't want to see that happen to new users. See, for example, User:Abela2006. I saw your modification to my message on his user talk page; no problem. - Richard Cavell 01:43, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Amazing!

Did you write that bot or do you just operate it? I have nearly the same IQ (a 2 point offset; I've never taken a proctored one as I just do it online). Have you ever considered nominating yourself for Adminship. Sorry that these comments are so unrelated; I just burped out whatever I was thinking and obviously I did not make good segues. See Ya,  ~Steptrip 00:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I didn't exactly write the bot. I just though of a way to subst the templates (the process is on the bot's userpage). It uses AutoWikiBrowser (bot mode has an option to take off the "using AWB" things.) So, I didn't code it, but I thought of how to do it. I've replied to the second part by e-mail. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 01:00, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Very smart, no wonder you have an IQ of 125 ;-P  ~Steptrip 01:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
135 :). --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 01:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Oops, I thought I typed 135. I have a similar problem with bringing Wikipedia into real life. Today, when I was writing Interior, I almost wrote "Interiot" in lieu of it twice. Surprising that I have an IQ of 133, isn't it?  ~Steptrip 01:08, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]  ???

OK, your message has me completely confused. I assume we're talking about Haus ← Haus42? The requested account has made no edits, has been notified and has no email. I don't see anything "commented out". What's the problem? WjBscribe 01:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Oops. I meant the last one on WP:CHU (Ekm02001 → Nicemarmot). --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 01:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. It seems that the {{CHU}} templates don't reacted well to being subst. WjBscribe 01:58, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
No, because (1) the account requesting the rename has very few edits and (2) the account requested was once blocked, and any logs whatsoever mean usurpations can't be performed. WjBscribe 02:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok. Maybe we should make a template about the very few edits and it being reserved for active users? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 02:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Possibly- the problem with that is that the crats have made no decision about how many edits are enough. Dan made the rule when he took over the board from Essjay- so we wouldn't know which accounts to tag. The edits problem wasn't the main issue and looking again and seeing how long the account has been editing I suspect the crats might well have allowed a usurpation. The real problem was the entry in the logs. WjBscribe 02:10, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your potential adoptee

I was out of town for the past week, so I didn't see your offer to adopt me until a couple days ago. [edit] RE:IQ

I should take a proctored IQ test, but right now it is out of my budget, so I'm stuck with my averaged score of 133. Sorry that it took me so long as I was creating a lengthy Wikitable for the Andrew Jackson Middle School article. By the way, could you raise me up?  ~Steptrip You raise me up 00:57, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Was this message meant for the right person. The second part of the message doesn't make sense to me. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:59, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation/edits

Finally we have a little guidance on this point. Dan allowed a usurpation request by an account with 69 edits just now. So I guess anyone with 50+ edits is OK. WjBscribe 01:16, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] minimum

Well, I also considered whether, as I wrote in the instructions, the account would be put to good use -- this guy seems reasonable enough. On reflection I think 50 might be a bit low for a general rule, but anything less than that would be out for sure. — Dan | talk 01:44, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Automatic Substing

I though you said auto-substing of templates would be in the next version. I guess now you mean the version after the next version. :) --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:21, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

It should be in the new version. You're editing user talk pages with general fixes on, right? I'm going to investigate now. —METS501 (talk) 03:34, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation

Hi, hope you don't mind but I've changed the clerknote for Cyril ← Cyrillic. Dan has in the past made exceptions to the no edit rule where a single edit was made a long time ago and has no GDFL consequences. Given that Cyril's edit was in July 2001 and was reverted, this seems like another instance that might qualify. Seems best just to leave a note and let him deal with it when process the request. WjBscribe 20:19, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi TeckWiz. I blocked your bot because it is substituting the < and > characters in the welcome messages (around nowiki tags). Please let me or any other admin know when you've fixed the problem. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. Xiner (talk, email) 23:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Can you show me a diff? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:20, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Sorry. [3] and [4] are user warning substitutions. Here's another.[5] I'm thinking it's template substitutions that's causing the problem. Xiner (talk, email) 23:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
It may have something to do with unicode. Can you unblock so I can run tests on those 3 pages? Also, in the future, so I don't have to ask for an unblock to fix, just leave a message on the bot's talk page. That'll stop it. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:30, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Done. Good luck. Xiner (talk, email) 23:32, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Can't seem to fix it. I've submitted a bug report with those diffs. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:57, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, no problem. I'm sure it's something minor, like all bugs. Xiner (talk, email) 00:26, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks for keeping me updated. No wonder bots were failing! Xiner (talk, email) 14:17, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry

[edit] Thanks for your support.

Dear R/Archive/2007/Mar,

Thank you very much for your kind words and supportive comments on my recent RfA. I've been shot down again, so it won't be happening this time. I hope, though, that I can hear from you again next time around - and there definitely will be a next time.

Best wishes,
