R.J. Mendenhall (1828 – 19--) American born businessman was very active in the Minnesota business world of the late 1800s.

Born in Guilford county, North Carolina, November 25th, 1828. He attended school a few years in New England, then went to Ohio, and in 1853 returned to North Carolina. The next year he went to New York, and in 1855 to Iowa as civil engineer; the year following he came to Minneapolis, and has since been in business here.

Mr. Mendenhall was married February 11th, 1858, to Abby Swift, of Massachusetts. They have no children.
[edit] Later life and career
In 1862 he is listed as the President of the State Bank of Minnesota.
Participated in Minnesota Floriculture by owning greenhouses.
Met and provided encouragement for Albert Butz, a Swiss born American inventor and businessman who early patents lead him to found a company which has become Honeywell.
