The {{disambig}} template is placed at the bottom of articles which exist to help readers find other articles with similar names (or which perhaps should have the same name). This concept is called Disambiguation.
Disambiguation is used with common words such as cross, life, and work.
This template can be used with an optional parameter for specialized types of disambiguation pages; for example, {{disambig|road}} for disambiguation of articles listing similarly-named roads. The following specific options currently are recognized:
- [List to be supplied]
[edit] For those who can't remember the name
For those who can't remember where the name is abbreviated: Template:Disambiguation, a "synonym".
[edit] Creating new specialized dab templates
In order to work with this template, a topic-specific template must be created following a prescribed format. The template name must be [[Template:topic-disambig]], where topic is a short reference to the subject of the articles (like "road" in the example above). The content of the template must exactly follow the following format:
{{disambig-details | topic = articles about something | cat = category name | project = For further details, see [[link]]. }}
The parameters are as follows:
- topic
- Required: A description of the types of articles linked from this class of disambiguation pages; it will replace the phrase "articles associated with the same title" in the default template, so it usually should begin with a plural noun such as "articles..." and complete the sentence.
- cat
- Optional: The name of a category containing disambiguation pages of this type. Brackets and "Category:" must not be included.
- project
- Optional: Text linking to more information about this specialized disambiguation category. No particular format is required, but it should be a complete sentence.
