The R132 is one of Ireland's newest regional roads, having being classified following the opening M1 motorway which by-passes most of the old N1 route.

By-passed sections of the old N1 were reclassified R132.

(North to south: there are three sections to this route)

Mooremount partial interchange (M1/R170), which was built in the first phase of the M1 project(1991-1993). This was downgraded to Regional Road status in 2001 with the completion of the Dunleer-Dundalk section of the M1 Motorway, and was redesignated as the R211.
