Røyrvik is a municipality in the county of Nord-Trøndelag, Norway.
Røyrvik was separated from Grong July 1, 1923.
The area has always had Sami influence. Large lakes (Limingen being the 9th largest) and mountain areas offer plentiful opportunity for outdoor activities. The highest mountain is Jetnamsklumpen.
[edit] Name
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the farm Røyrvik, since the first church was built there (in 1828). The first element is the name of the fish røyr (Salvelinus alpinus), the last element is vik f 'inlet'.
[edit] Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from 1985. The special cross is common in Sámi hand-made articles, and represents the Sun.
[edit] Mining activity and economy
From 1911 to the First World War, mining explorations were conducted in the Gjersvik areas. The modern Grong Gruber mines were active in the Joma area from 1972 to 1998. Farming and some reindeer business have always been a source of income.
The mining buildings now house various small industrial firms.
A few efforts to create new business include electronics assembly and electronic document management. A small alpine skiing resort (Skisenteret) was started in 1986.
