[edit] Comparison of Canadian and American football

Thank you for adding that transition at the start of the paragraph on scrimmage kicks in the US. I thought I had put one in, but apparently it slipped out during editing. —C.Fred (talk) 03:07, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Assiniboine Park Conservatory

I noticed that when you created the Assiniboine Park Conservatory article the edit summary you put was "Copyright article by Wayne Ray 1991 WayneRay 22:17, 18 April 2006 (UTC)WayneRay". As it says below every edit box on Wikipedia, any text you submit to Wikipedia you must agree to license it under the GFDL. Qutezuce 06:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

You must be looking at an old page? I deleted that part last month. It was before I knew about copyrights and stuff when I was first starting on Wiki. There is notheing there now and I changed all the other gardens as well. If it should be merged as well I agree, there is a note on the page. WayneRay 20:45, 12 June 2006 (UTC)WayneRay

[edit] Thanks for the info

I just wanted to quickly reply to your post on my talk page. Thanks very much for the fantastic info ... I will definitely see about incorporating your ideas! Also, I am JUST in the process of creating WP:LAKES, if you are feeling adventurous, please consider joining the project and adding your suggestions to the main article! Cheers from Edmonton, Alberta Em3rald 06:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Haha, well didn't you know that lake is actually in the middle of the ocean?? We are just taught to BELIEVE that it's actually on land somewhere. ;) ... thanks for picking that up. I will have to verify my links more carefully. With your googl map suggestion, it should make that job MUCH easier. Thanks again! Em3rald 06:38, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CFL players category

RE: Your message to me.

I've been honestly conflicted about including both "Canadian Football League players" & "(CFL team name) players" for each player bio. I'd normally be inclined to leave it at "[CFL team name] players" category, and that's it ... but when you look @ the "Category:Canadian Football League players" section, it's strewn full of CFL players ... thereby creating my conflict about it! [edit] Dundurn

Oh, I've had the same concerns. I can't say I feel particularly strongly about AFDing them, though, which is why I've been doing cleanup work on them, but I wouldn't necessarily object if somebody else wanted to nominate them for the trash can. Not that I'm hinting or anything. Bearcat 04:21, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletes

Hi, it's been a while but do you think List of films shot in Winnipeg should be deleted in favour of the List of TV and films shot in Winnipeg. Also, I screwed up on the Health Sciences Centre (Winnpeg) article. Can we get that one deleted as well? jdobbin 01:32, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I created a redirect for the film article to the more film and TV complete article and the HSC one should probably be deleted no problem. jdobbin 18:31, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CFL Playoff brackets

I think it is cool that there is a playoff bracket, but there is no signals or signs that states the dates or the home team. Luckily, that information is in the 93rd Grey Cup article. However, we should ask him not to make any changes to other articles unless those types of information is saved and if possible he can add them to the brackets. However, the seasons where the playoffs are complicated (60's - 70's) are off-limits, because I don't see how you can make a simple World Cup type playoff bracket. Bestghuran 12:32 Pacific, 29 June 2006

Hey if the guy wants to do it that way then let him having a playoff bracket is not bad. Bestghuran 19:45 Pacific 29 June 2006

[edit] Moving pages

Hi, thanks for the suggestion - a friend let me know about this feature as soon as I created the new page. I only think that this might be a special case since the only content from the original page that ended up on the new one was - partially - the first line; everything else was rewritten in what I hope is a more formal tone. I do agree that the history may have been useful to keep, but then again when I read the first article I felt it was so poorly written that it was probably a first revision that some guy thought it would be cool to start, e.g. nothing really worth keeping (not as if it's "gone" now, anyways).

Either way, will "move" next time, if there is a next time. Thanks for the heads up. :) --midkay 07:05, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help on the Damon Allen Article

That would be GREAT if you could get a copy of the current (or near current) CFL record book and check the stats for the Khari Jones article. Also, I started working on the Damon Allen article, and could use some help. Please take a look at it when you get a chance, and help me clean it up. I think the All-time CFL passing leader's article could (and should) be better than it currently is.Sundevilesq 22:53, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category on CFL page

I'm curious, what is the reason for the change you made to the category on the Canadian Football League page:

[[Category:Canadian Football League]] to [[Category:Canadian Football League| ]]? --Bdoserror 16:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, that explanation makes sense. Cool, didn't know you could do that. --Bdoserror 17:14, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Category:Canadian Football League punt returners

What do you suggest - should we just put them all into Category:Canadian Football League kick returners? Btw, I've left some further comments on Category talk:Canadian Football League. heqs 16:59, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: US to U.S. in article titles for dabing

Well, it seems backwards to me since there is already a guideline about US/U.S. Oh well, this isn't the first time the world hasn't made sense and it won't be the last. Thanks for the info. Dismas|(talk) 07:11, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nicole Muller

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The article as it's currently written doesn't violate any copyright issues that I know of; it's been significantly rewritten from the prior version. I'm not entirely convinced that she's actually notable enough for an article, though, so I'll keep an eye on it. Bearcat 07:54, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] By Bailey: BC Lions Great

Qutezuce, I've (slowly) been trying to Wiki the 8 retired jersey #'s of the B.C. Lions, and could use your assistance on By Bailey. Can you check any sources you may know of in Canada and let me know when Bailey died? You would think the Lions' website would be informative, but sadly, it isn't (at least on this issue). Sundevilesq 04:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hadamard matrix

I've semiprotected it. I agree that it's warranted in this case — since the anon's edits haven't all been from the same IP number, it's unlikely that simply posting a personal talk page note to ask for discussion would reach them. So I also inserted a hidden comment in the article asking the anon to go to the talk page, and asked on the talk page what their issue was. Bearcat 03:57, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] foreward -> forward

You might want to make your bot a little bit more careful about changing foreward into forward. In this edit the correct meaning was not "forward" but rather "foreword". Qutezuce 09:05, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Ah, thanks for that. I've seen this occur quite a few times, and generally catch it before I approve the edits the bot is about to make. I guess this time it just slipped through the net. Cheers, CmdrObot 12:54, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Football links

What the U.S. and Canada call "Football" is different than what the rest of the world means by "football", i.e., "soccer". The naming convention makes the distinction clear. The links are red because as I was changing some links in an article I changed all the ones that had "(football player)"; I just haven't caught up to moving the referenced articles yet. All the links will function again. Thanks.

The convention I'm using is that the "American" or "Canadian" is determined by which country the player is currently playing for. The articles generally give the current position of the player first and then add that they played elsewhere.

As for the changes in general, I was being bold. There have been articles with "(football player)", "(Football Player)", "(American football player)", "(football)", etc. Surely some sort of standardization is a good thing? What I've done can also be adapted for the soccer players as well; "Brazilian football", "Australian football", etc. They're not consistent, either; that's a project for someone else that wants it.Chidom talk  07:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I understand your misgivings about players who frequently move back and forth between the countries; however, how many of them are likely to actually need any sort of designation after their name? It's only being done in cases where there's a need to distinguish an athlete from a politician, actor, etc.
If you have a better option, I'm all for it. I was using the option that I saw that made the most sense.Chidom talk  07:47, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I've reverted any changes that resulted in broken links.Chidom talk  08:55, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re Question

Why did you make this edit? It was a good edit, you didn't provide any reason to revert it. Qutezuce 03:59, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing. It was indeed a mistake. I mistook that '''Bold text''' for another thing. I should have paid more attention, and I will record this mistake. Once again, thanks for alerting me. Best regards. --Húsönd 04:35, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Football players—the end

My profound apologies for all of this. I recently discovered Wikipedia:Naming conventions, which says, in part:

"If you wish to propose a new naming convention, do so on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions, and also explain the proposal at Requests for comment and the Village Pump, as well as at any related pages. Once a strong consensus has formed, it can be adopted as a naming convention and listed below." (on the naming convention list)

I won't go into a long, drawn-out explanation of how I got started on this; suffice it to say that there is a gay porn star with the same name as a football player.

I've now finished updating all the article links so that they bypass the redirect pages that were created when I moved the original pages. I've also been informed that this was incorrect as well, and there's a whole section on it at Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken.

In my own defense, my changing all the redirect links may save server time (and money) in the future. Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups/About fixing redirects states: "In other words, readers of Wikipedia would have to use a redirect link about 10,000 times before it would be worthwhile to replace that link with a direct link." Arguably, most of these links will be used 10,000 times or more.

Lastly, let me apologize again for the confusion this has caused and reiterate that I am bowing out of the discussion. I feel that a convention does need to be created, but I'm not all that big a sports fan to start with, so I'll leave it to folks more familiar with the nuances.

I'm posting this at several user talk pages in response to comments made on my talk page about this; if you have further comments, please make them on my talk page. Thanks.

Thanks.Chidom talk  03:09, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Turn images into svg

Hey Tnnikel,

I am just wondering if you have the svg program to allow pictures to appear on wikipedia? Because currently I don't have a program, is it possible that you can go from the 87th Grey Cup to the 83rd Grey Cup to get the Grey Cup logos to appear?

If you can it would be greatly appreciated. Also about the CFL USA if you want I did every CFL USA team for the exception of the Baltimore Stallions because it is linked to the Montreal Alouettes, whatever information that you want to add about the failures and little success about the franchises and the market it would be located on those team pages. Memphis Mad Dogs, Birmingham Barracudas, San Antonio Texans, Shreveport Pirates, Las Vegas Posse, Sacramento Gold Miners.

i'm moving the information to the main page. I don't have time to walk you through edits i made months ago. the episode lists are for that exact reason "episodes". The information is important but I moved it to the main page were it's more relevant. Look at major television shows episode lists and you won't see any season information. you gotta meet in the middle. The information was moved to the main page. [edit] Grey Cup Game Pages

Thanks for your helpful edits on the old Grey Cup games I'm trying to make pages for. I've also been going through more recent games trying to improve the tone of some of the articles, which look like they have been copied from newspaper reports, and tighten them up. I ran into a snag with the 82nd Grey Cup where Bestghuran reverted the changes. Since I had explained my changes in depth on the talk page and he said nothing at all I have reverted his but I don't want to get into a revert war. Would you be so kind as to have a look at the page and my comments on the talk page and give your opinion? Thanks again. --Bolognaking 21:39, 21 November 2006 (UTC) Bestghuran doesn't have his own talk page unfortunately. He's now done a further re-edit which is better than his previous revert but in my opinion repetitive (and I think perhaps a little POV). I'm going to leave it for now to give other editors a chance to look at it. It would be nice to establish some style guidelines of the kind I suggested on the talk page, and you have been working on with the new pages I've been creating.--Bolognaking 16:46, 22 November 2006 (UTC) Thanks. I didn't realize you could have a talk page when you don't have a user page.--Bolognaking 15:54, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

First off, thanks for all your contributions to The Office pages. Secondly, I don't know how long they'll last up there, but thanks for restoring those MySpace blog citations. [edit] Target Longlife Productions / Target Longlife Media Player

Hi, I really don't see why you think that the articles, Target Longlife Productions and Target Longlife Media Player should be deleted. I've made my best to explain that the media player doesn't have any connections to Media Player Classic and that the company, Target Longlife Production, do exist!

Please don't add anymore false warning tags. I hope you'll understand that the articles aren't hoax - why should them be? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arman88 (talkcontribs) 22:18, 28 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Regarding Target Longlife Productions

I've now deleted the "unreliable" information about the videogame adaptions in the article, Target Longlife Productions. What more do I need to change/add/delete to save the article?

Kindest regards. Arman.

[edit] Regarding Target Longlife Productions

But if you were in charge of editing the subject content, what would you add? I feel that everything you need to know about TLP is already written in the article...

How come companies like Icon Productions, Rastar etc. get away with the warnings? Sure, their movies are famous, but that shouldn't matter?!

PS. sorry for the spamming. I really don't know how to merge all of my questions into one headline. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arman88 (talkcontribs) 23:35, 28 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Toomuchtrivia

Why are you removing this tag from articles? Many of these articles have hideously large trivia sections with information that can be either integrated into the prose or removed altogether.--Drat (Talk) 07:23, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

The problem is that these massive lists become/are magnets for original research and unencyclopedic info. Also, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Please also read Wikipedia:Avoid trivia sections in articles.--Drat (Talk) 07:41, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
I've watched this unfold over the last couple minutes on my watchlist, and I'd like to offer a suggestion. Instead of reverting each other, stop editing the trivia tags and talk it out. Removing the non-binding tag, no matter how valid, is perfectly acceptable. This is a wiki, it happens. The same is true for adding it, someone felt that the article had too much trivia. Both of y'all have valid opinions on the issue, the edit history of the articles in question shows that you're not going to convince each other via revert-pong, so talk it out instead please. - CHAIRBOY () 07:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

To quote from your message to me: "but we don't remove them or tag them with cleanup in order to try to "fix" this problem.". The whole idea of cleanup tags is to point out that a section or article needs cleaning up. Ideally, there shouldn't be trivia sections at all. As for your argument here, we don't need that level of detail, as it is indiscriminate information, and a lot of it is best suited to fansites. As I said before trivia should be either integrated where appropriate, or removed altogther. Some of these articles have several screenfuls of mindless trivia.--Drat (Talk) 09:39, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

The changes to Quake III are only initial. With additional info on the development, those sections could become something much better.--Drat (Talk) 03:50, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Please refrain from removing the {{toomuchtrivia}} tags on the Boeing 727, Boeing 737, and Boeing 747 pages. The have been added for reasons specific to WikiProject Aircraft guidelines to alert and remind editors to place the trivia section items within the text as they can. I respect your right to disagree with the placement of the tags, but would rather you discuss them first on the aircraft talk pages or the project talk page first, rather than deleting the tags on your own. Thanks. - BillCJ 07:07, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Pink Panther.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pink Panther.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Qrsys Cstrp (talk) 09:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jonathon Fowler

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Jonathon Fowler, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Whats Up Doc still.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Whats Up Doc still.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
