[edit] History

Cricket began being played around Quorn before the town was proclaimed (in 1878). It was on December 22, 1877 when the first recorded game was played in the area between Kanyaka Club and the Far Northern Stragglers, and the result went the Kanyaka Clubs way, a re-match was played shortly after and the Far Northern Stragglers won, it was alleged at the time that if the rules were strictly enforced, Kanyaka Club would have convincingly beaten the Stragglers.

After several games in the area, 20 people met together to discuss the formation of a Cricket Club in the area and decided on the entrance fee of 5/- (five Shillings) and the membership price of 1/- (one Shilling) per month was agreed upon, and thus beginning the Quorn Cricket Club. It was roughly a year later before the club began playing cricket in the area, the first game was held on December 9, 1878 at an unknown location and was played against the Kanyaka Club. Quorn made a fine impression on the opposition with a win in their first game as an official club. Although no scoresheets have been found of this game, several individual scores were published which records how the first individual milestone came in the form of a half century (fifty runs) which was achieved by a Mr Manson, who made 52 not out in the first innings.

Records of the club are a little sketchy from the beginning of the club to the turn of the century. but there is evidence that points toward the fact that the club played inter-town games with a couple of matches against Port Augusta and surrounding areas.
