Quonset Freeway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Quonset Freeway is a freeway in Rhode Island that is currently under construction. It is being built in two sections. The southern section from U.S. Route 1 north to School Street is complete as of June, 2006. The Current part of the project is:

  • The Right of way alongside Northeast Corridor,
  • A bridge over the rails,
  • A bridge over RI 402
  • A trumpet interchange at RI 4. Currently, RI 402 is using this stretch of road to detour around bridge work being done on its own bridge.

The northern section from School Street to the current RI 4/RI 402/RI 403 interchange is due to be completed in 2008.

When the freeway is completed, RI 403 will be moved to the freeway from its current surface street alignment.
