Why would this come from "qui"? If the students were learning Latin they probably wouldn't have confused "quis" and "qui". Adam Bishop 22:58, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

"...quis does not appear in many of the standard introductory vocabularies..." :) (I'd hardly call myself a scholar of the game, though.) Sdedeo 04:26, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh, introductory vocabularies of the game? Or of Latin? Adam Bishop 06:14, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Of Latin, I mean. Will fix to make clearer! Sdedeo 07:02, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

What is the aetiology of the conern about the word "quis"? I mean, is it just speculation? Doesn't occam's razor apply? Doops | talk 19:38, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

The game is most common among students who do not know the word quis, but do know a similar one, qui. Sdedeo (tips) 19:52, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Not to be a jerk or anything; but what's your source? I mean, quis is just a Latin II word (and that's using the modern slowed-down approach; it was a Latin I word in the bad/good old days). It's not like some sort of college-level thing. And I imagine kids in Latin I play much the same games as those in Latin II. Doops | talk 19:59, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, now you're digging into my ancient history. We played the game while still on book one of the Cambridge Latin Course at age ten or so, and definitely did not know the meaning of the word "quis" (that many people played the game while unaware of the meaning of quis also appears in the source [1].) On the other hand, "qui" is one of the first words you encounter. Anyway, given our discussions elsewhere of the dangers of amateur etymology, I've made some edits. Ah, yes, the Cambridge Latin Course. If I recall correctly what that is, you should probably know that it's nothing at all like the way Latin used to be taught back in the day. Doops | talk 20:25, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Do we have a wiki entry on the Cambridge Latin Course? We should. I'd be curious to learn it's origin -- I imagine some sort of educational reform movement. Sdedeo (tips) 20:29, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Deleting transwiki Describing the game as used in UK schools makes it enyclopedic, not merely dictionary-iable. -- TheEditrix2 16:47, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
