This town was named after an officer in the civil war Samuel Jacob Quinton .

Actually, the town is said to be named for Martha Elizabeth Jacobs Quinton, a prominent Choctaw leader, who was married to Samuel Quinton. He died in 1904. She died in 1941 at 115 years old. The town was built on her Indian allotment. OKtag 03:54, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
