Quisqueyano is a word sometimes used to denote a person of Dominican descent. It is derived from the Taino name for the island of Hispaniola, Quisqueya.
In the national anthem of the Dominican Republic Himno Nacional the term 'Dominican' never appears. The author of its lyrics Emilio Prud'homme consistently uses the poetic term Quisqueyano.
