[edit] Proposed merger with "Quechuan languages"

At 17:48, 14 May 2007 User:Gacelo proposed merging this article with Quechuan languages without a comment. See Talk:Quechua#Proposed merger with "Quechuan languages". -- PhJ 07:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I'd say No. The root problem is that 'Quechua' is ambiguous between the family, the most widespread dialect, and any dialect. I think there's absolutely no question that the most widely spoken native language family of the Americas deserves an article-- that is, "Quechuan languages"-- just as Romance or Chinese have one. Likewise Cusco dialect should (and does) have an article. But the average reader is not very likely to go directly to either of these; they'll look up Quechua. Very possibly the mix of information on these articles is wrong, but I think they should all stay. Zompist 17:41, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
  • I agree with Zompist. No merger. -- PhJ 11:48, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
  • No merger; agree with Zompist, too. The term Quechua is ambiguous.--Kanon6917 18:58, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
