Quess Paraya (クェス・パラヤ Kuesu Paraya?) is a fictional character from the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. She is introduced as a spoiled daughter of the Earth Federation Minister Adenaur Paraya, but eventually defects to Char Aznable's Neo-Zeon movement.

[edit] Newtype Training and Enamourment to Amuro Ray
Quess is introduced in the film running away from Indian Police authorities with Christina, a young woman who teaches a philosophy that one can become a Newtype through spiritual means rather than evolutionary means. After some chase, she is eventually caught and handed back to her father Adenaur Paraya, who is getting ready to go into space to broker a peace deal with Char at Londenion. At the space port, Adenaur bumps Bright Noa's wife Mirai and daughter Cheimin, allowing only the son Hathaway to board the ship to escape Earth before Char sends another asteroid that would follow the one that destroyed Tibet.
En route to Side 1, the shuttle carrying Quess, Adenaur, and Hathaway accidentally drifts into a battle between Londo Bell and Neo-Zeon Forces. During the battle, Quess is jolted from her seat while trying to get a better view, and is caught by Hathaway. After the battle, the shuttle is picked-up by the Londo Bell ship Ra Cailum.
On the ship, Quess stubbornly enters a restricted area of the ship, and immediately falls in love with Amuro Ray, completely ignoring the advances of her newfound friend Hathaway Noa. When she finds out that Amuro is in love with Chan Agi, and then rebuffed by Amuro, Quess looks to another Newtype, Char Aznable.
[edit] Defection to Neo-Zeon
At Side 1's Londenion, Quess sticks around with both Amuro and Hathaway while on leave, while her father goes into secret talks with Char Aznable. After the talks, Char is confronted by Amuro, but Gyunei Guss manages to rescue Char in a RMS-116H Hobby Hizack. During the rescue, Quess immediately runs towards Char and asks to go with him, and Char agrees. Her relationship with Char eventually causes a rift between Char and Nanai Miguel (whom oversees Char's Newtype Programs and is romantically involved with Char) as Quess sees Char as a romantic interest.
Recruited into Neo Zeon and charmed by Char, Quess assumes the identity "Quess Air" and is given a custom MSN-03 Jagd Doga in pink and red Colors.
During a Federation battle after Char revealed that he was lying about his disarmament plans at Sweetwater, Quess unknowingly kills her father, whom was overseeing the disarmament proceedings and immediately got drawn into the battle. He was a few moments away from getting into an escape pod when Quess destroyed the bridge of the ship, causing the explosion. After the battle, Quess displayed a high amount of natural Newtype powers, and is eventually assigned to the NZ-333 Alpha Azieru Mobile Armor. However, the development of her powers also causes Quess to become highly unstable, as her immature mind is forced to deal with the realities of war. Quess is also unaware that Char is using her for his own gains and considers her expendable, a fact made clear to Gyunei Guss during a talk in the prepping of Axis for its fall onto earth.
[edit] Hathaway's Love and Accidental Death of Quess
During the final battle where Char is sending the Asteroid base Axis to the Earth and forcing it into a new ice age, Hathaway steals a Mobile Suit and attempts to find Quess and get her to turn back on her misguided ways. Hathaway finds Quess, but Quess's Newtype powers has gone amok, and has turned the unstable Quess into a wreck. After talking with Quess, Hathaway is unable to turn Quess, but in the process, finds out his hidden Newtype powers. Soon after, a battle ensues between Quess and Chan (in a severely damaged Mobile Suit), and the two fight it out. As Hathaway pushes Chan's damaged mobile suit away and tries one last time to turn Quess and profess his love, (whom eventually accepts and agrees to turn), Chan accidentally fires her remaining missiles into the Alpha Azieru's side, destroying the mobile armor and killing Quess. This act in turn causes Hathaway to snap and fire on Chan's Mobile Suit, killing Chan in the process.
[edit] Alternate endings
In the novelization of CCA, Beltorchika's Children, it is actually Hathaway who accidentally kills her. This event caused Hathaway to create the anti-Federation terrorist group Mafty.
In the animated feature Gundam Evolve 5, an alternate battle between Quess and Amuro leaves Quess alive and sane. She is last seen going to find Hathaway. Whether Tomino intended this to officially replace her fate in the movie is unknown, but it clearly takes place in the movie, because Amuro pilots the Nu Gundam and not the Hi Nu-Gundam, as in the novel.
