[edit] Plot

Maggie Baker (Nikki Blonsky), is an overweight teenage girl nominated for homecoming queen by Camille, Tara and Liz, the mean popular girls at her high school. They nominated her as a joke. Maggie decides to go for the crown and prove to everyone, including herself, that she's more than just "the fat girl". Her mother (Annie Potts) wants Maggie to lose 25 pounds. She is worried about Maggie's weight because Maggie's father died the year before from diabetes. Her mother puts her under a lot of stress during the homecoming race. With the help of her best friend Casey (Lily Holleman) and some other people at school, Maggie becomes homecoming queen. In the end Liz is not friends with Tara anymore. Tara confesses she voted for Maggie in the homecoming race.
