The Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal was a commemorative medal struck to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. For Coronation and Jubilee medals, the practice up until 1977 was that United Kingdom authorities decided on a total number to be produced, then allocated a proportion to each of the Commonwealth countries, Crown dependencies and possessions. The award of the medals was then at the discretion of the local government authority, who were free to decide who got a medal and why.

The following numbers were issued:

  • 30,000 British and Commonwealth medals
    • 1,507 to New Zealanders
    • 6,870 to Australians
  • 30,000 Canadian medals
