[edit] Summary

Queen Mary I of England (1513-1558) imprisoned young Lady Elizabeth in the Tower of London in 1554. Elizabeth remained there for 16 weeks before being moved to Woodstock Palace in Oxfordshire under the ward of Sir Henry Bedingfield whom she coldly referred to as "Jailer". Upon her release, Elizabeth spent the remainder of her time, before her coronation, at Hatfield Palace in Hertfordshire.
