Talk:Quartz crystal microbalance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There's also a separate stub Piezoelectric microbalance on the same item -- or at least, as far as I know it's pretty much the same item. I don't use them myself. :) If nobody objects I can merge that one to this one. Jaeger5432 22:49, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, they are the same thing and should be merged. Cardamon 21:28, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Added a bit of clarification on what the dissipation is measuring. DJ 82.5.59.115 19:20, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How is frequency measured?
Is there a feedback loop of electronics that detects the actual frequency of the crystal? A secondary counting crystal? 206.197.62.9 14:38, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
--> The Quartz Crystal Microbalance is used as the frequency determining component in an oscillator circuit

[edit] Major Edit
This article is currently just a little stub. I use these oscillators on a daily basis and have written a short, referenced document on the background and use of the balances and if no one objects I would like to replace this stub with that document; properly edited and formatted for wikipedia of course. - This might be a very good idea. It's hard to have an opinion without seeing your document. I assume it is free of any copyright issues? If the present article contains any information not in your document, it might be better if the two were merged. Cardamon 20:48, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- I will look into any copyright issues on images and statistics contained within before I post up the document for you guys to check out. This might take a few weeks. Also, the document is four pages so I might need some help trimming it down once it goes up. Nano Dan 13:59, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll be looking forward to it. One possibility would be to make a work in progress (wip) subpage of your user page, and put it on there to work on before it goes live. Cardamon 08:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ok I typed up a shortened version and its up on my user page, look at it and help with editing Nano Dan 15:34, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'll look at it in more detail later when I have more time. For now, I've made a minor edit to it, and I'll give you a few quick reactions to it. The name of the thing being written about should be worked into the first or second sentence of a Wikipedia article. Some of the introductory material about piezoelectricity can be left to the piezoelectricity article. Also, notice that there is already a small article about the Sauerbrey equation. Your essay contains good material on how QCMs are used and on AT -cut and SC crystals. Adding material on the z-match method is also a good idea. I haven't added figures yet myself, but around here people are very concerned that figures not have any copyright issues. Cardamon 22:46, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ok thanks for the info... this is my first real contribution here so I'm not completely familiar with policy. I made some changes to the article, removing the discussion on piezoelectricity and leaving the link to the article on that topic. I modified the existing introductory paragraph for the QCM and incorporated it into my article I had a look at the sauerbrey equation article and its pretty slim. I would recommend merging what I have regarding the sauerbrey equation and z-match method into the sauerbrey equation article. Nano Dan 17:44, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

(undent) Overall, the rewrite is a significant improvement. I would like to put the references into "Notes" form, which is currently the preferred format. Does anyone object? Cardamon 18:14, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- No objection Nano Dan 23:12, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I combined the existing article with a major expansion (cf. the following section "additional article on QCM", that was from my IP) to a new article. If nobody objects, I would like to replace the existing article with the new one. By now I did not yet include grafics, but this will follow soon. Any additional formating tips or other suggestions are welcome. --Beaker.de 12:13, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Graphics are included now. --Beaker.de 13:35, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] additional article on QCM
If anybody finds any information in this article on QCM useful...? As far as I know free of any copyright issues, since the author wrote it explicitly for wikipedia. --139.174.150.29 11:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- I added equations. Now the text should be more readable.--139.174.150.29 09:14, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] major edit #2, stub template removed
As announced a few weeks ago I replaced the page by an extended version and removed the stub template. --Beaker.de 21:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
