Talk:Quark, Inc.

Hi, folks. This article currently looks like it was thrown together from spare parts. I'm going to do a bit of work to make it scan better. - Robert Rapplean 17:19, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
The article says they didn't create Quark XPress until '87, but they'd been in business since '81. Can anyone tell us what they did before '87? - Robert Rapplean 21:54, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Who is Mark Pope?
Mark Pope has twice been added as a founder of Quark. I have been calling around inside of Quark and attempting to contact those who theoretically would have been around at the time, but still have not managed to reach anyone who could tell me who Mark Pope is/was. If anyone has any information on the topic, I would appreciate hearing about it.
I currently have three suspicions. 1. Mark was a lesser founder than Tim Gill who just managed to drop off the history books because he didn't stick around long enough, 2. Mark was an early employee of Quark who someone thinks was a founder, or 3. Mark is someone who may or may not have even been around at the time but really wants people to think that he was there and involved. Until we have some kind of evidence, I'm gonna have to insist that he be left entirely off of the article. - Robert Rapplean 12:20, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok, new information. The mysterious person behind IP address 85.177.174.192 has linked to an article in the GLBTQ encyclopedia on Tim Gill, and that encyclopedia entry mentions Mark as a founder of Quark. On the other hand, I called the Tim Gill Foundation, and they hadn't heard of him, and never got back to me with Tim's side of things. Ditto with Fred's equivalent organization. This is inconclusive though because, like the current Quark management, none of them were around in 1980.
Fortunately for us (unfortunately for Mark), Mark's house got broken into the day before yesterday and his name and city showed up in the news papers. I have his phone number now, and will give him a call. - Robert Rapplean 16:38, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

- I have talked to Mark Pope. He tells me that he contributed funding and effort towards the creation of the company, and owned a portion of it from the outset. Unless someone comes forward with a counter-story, this is going to have to stand as the official Wikipedia information. - Robert Rapplean 19:48, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
