[edit] Providence skyline

What was the matter with the Providence skyline location of Quahog inference? Many people I've talked to ask where Quahog could be.Loodog 21:59, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand what your concern is. I rewrote the inference of Quahog's location based on the Providence skyline. Based on the analysis, I determined that Quahog must be to the west of Providence. Do you disagree with what I wrote? —MementoVivere (talk · contribs) 01:57, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
It's west of Providence based on where the skyline is seen, and it's south of Providence based on the left-right order of the buildings.Loodog 13:31, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
The fact that the Providence skyline is seen on the left side of the shots of the Griffin house as opposed to the right side just means that Quahog is more west than north of Providence. The left-right and furthest-closest order of the buildings in the skyline as seen in the series: One Financial Plaza, 50 Kennedy Plaza, and the Bank of America Tower; rules out the possibility that Quahog is south of Providence. As seen from this satellite image (where north is upwards), the buildings are, from southwest to northeast: the Bank of America Tower, 50 Kennedy Plaza, and One Financial Plaza. From the south, the order of the buildings would be the opposite of that seen in the series (L-R: the Bank of America Tower, 50 Kennedy Plaza, and One Financial Plaza) This is the view of those buildings from the south. This is the view of those buildings from the west. Clearly the second one more closely approximates the Providence skyline as seen in Family Guy. In fact, to be more precise, Quahog is a bit north of west of Providence. —MementoVivere (talk · contribs) 21:25, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. Why does the article only say "west"?Loodog 04:26, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Google maps shows a Spooner Street located southwest of downtown Providence.
How do we know that Quahog is a suburb of Providence and not its own city? It has its own mayor, after all. C1k3 06:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
All suburbs of Providence are their own cities and have their own mayors.--Loodog 11:43, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Drunken Clam Merge Discussion

I propose a new section for this article that will include the fictional locations that are a part of Quahog (but not part of any known locations in RI). This would include merging in articles like Drunken Clam, but could also include other locations, such as Peter's workplace and so on. ju66l3r 18:13, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

What, you mean like a List of places on Family Guy?--Loodog 01:30, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, wouldn't it be better presentation to have text describing each of those locations in appropriate locations (like the Quahog places in this article)? I'm not a huge fan of "List of..." articles. ju66l3r 17:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Not a huge fan? Just because they're unusable and no one reads them?--Loodog 01:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Quality

This page should be cleaned up (no offense, but it sounds like an elementary student wrote it.) LM

Do you like how I write it now?--Loodog 06:39, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Town Name

Someone should mention that it's probably more related to the clam than the Rhode Island village. 155.212.30.130 21:51, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

==I'm removing the part about the village, completely original research with no basis other than 'they kinda sound the same'. There's a Lake Quassapaug in CT, maybe that's what Quahog really is...sheesh. 162.136.192.1 (talk) 22:17, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No sources

Okay, we simply aren't going to find any sources for this article. Clearly, inferences for the location of Quahog were original research; however, the arguments for location are true and verifiable by map, and also of interest to readers.--Loodog 04:32, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

So present the facts and eliminate the inferences. WP:NOR wipes out about half the article. I like the skyline comparison, but the caption is plainly OR. - PhilipR 16:24, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
What do we call "inference" and what do we call "fact"? --Loodog 00:43, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Olive Garden

Although the Olive Garden is mentioned, it is not stated that it's in Quahog. It could easily be in a neighboring town, so I have rewmoved that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.56.49.49 (talk) 02:23, 18 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Moby Dick

To whomever keeps inserting the following phrase:

In Herman Melville's Moby Dick, Queequeg is referred to as "Qhohog."

This is completely unrelated and therefore should be removed.--Loodog 15:09, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Is it? I'm not sure if it qualifies as notable enough to be in the article, but first of all the name is written Quohog NOT Qhohog, so it is in fact related. (Melville's spelling is an older spelling of Quahog, reference the 1919 film "Dredging the Quohog," which is about dredging for Quahog. Likely Melville chose the name because Queequeg's character presents such a stoic and unemotional front, like a Clam. With Family Guy's PRODIGIOUS cultural references it would not surprise me in the slightest that it is either also a reference to Melville's character or that Melville's character was the original inspiration for the name. But unless someone from the family guy writing team confirms this it is just speculation so probably not worth putting in the article. Hvatum (talk) 16:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Notability?

The first thing I did when I read that box was search "Arlen Texas" and "Bikini Bottom". Both have their own article. I'm not quite convinced there was any NPOV reason for the tag (on the part of the editor who tagged the page). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.228.54.78 (talk) 04:43, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Familyguyskyline.gif

Image:Familyguyskyline.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Fictional

Search for Quahog, Rhode Island at http://factfinder.census.gov/, and you will find that it is indeed fictional. —Nricardo (talk) 11:45, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
