Quarter crack

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A quarter crack is a term used by horsemen to describe a vertical split in a horse hoof wall at or about the quarter or widest part of the hoof. Quarter cracks are not an uncommon injury in horses worked extensively in horseshoes.[1]

One of the horses who suffered a quarter crack was Big Brown, before the 2008 Belmont Stakes.[2]
