Quantztown, Ontario
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quantztown is an Ontario town located in the north part of Markham, near McCowan Road and 16th Avenue.
As early as the 1990s, the area was at the edge of residential development, with land north of 16th Avenue still agricultural. Since the late 1990s, the land has given way to single family homes. Since Markham has been growing at an alarming rate, there often is confusion as to where Quantztown really is. West on Carton Road past McCowan Road there was a park area named "Quantztown Park", the park itself actually lies outside of the actual area designated Quantztown, and hence the park is improperly named. The actual Quantztown exists more so on the south west corner of McCowan Road and 16th Avenue, where there is notably a cemetery named (as it should be) Quantztown cemetery. Back in the 1930's and 40's when Quantztown first came into existence (named after Mr. Quantz, the man who owned the land around that area) it consisted of less than 10 houses, each a small farm. Currently the area is served by Markville Secondary School, and Central Park Public School and also contains one of the towns only police stations.
