Quan fa (Pinyin quánfǎ or Wade-Giles ch'üan2 fa3, 拳法 "fist principles") is a generic term used for open handed Chinese martial arts. This was the kind of boxing that influenced Okinawan karate, and is pronounced in Japanese as kempo.
[edit] Outside Influences
Quan fa techniques are described in a book called Jixiao Xinshu (紀效新書) written by the Chinese General Qi Jiguang. When this book spread to East Asia, it had a great influence on the development of martial arts in those regions.[citation needed] The Korean martial arts manual Muyedobotongji (1790) has a chapter on Quan fa, called Kwon Bub in Korean
[edit] Pop Culture
