[edit] Company History
QlikTech, founded in 1993, originally began as a consulting company and later moved into the business intelligence space. Its offices were established in Lund, Sweden at Science Park Ideon which is among the oldest of science parks in the world.
QlikTech developed a tool for analyzing multi-dimensional data for a client and then, based on this tool, developed QlikView, named after a point-and-click-simple way to view data and information and based on their patented in-memory associative technology, which is the company's main competitive advantage in the market.
The first version was 3.15 and was launched in 1997 for PCs. This was after multiple attempts for patents. The company had a solid but slow growing pattern early on but eventually by 2004 had 1500 customers across the world.
Being considered a successful Swedish company was their first win but the company recognized that expanding to a global scale would require additional capital. QlikTech decided to go global and received investments from Accel Partners and Jerusalem Venture Partners. The company now has 265,000 users in 74 countries and over 6000 customers, and are adding an average of 12 customers per day.[1]
QlikView 8 was released in May, 2007.[2] Now recognized as a leading provider of next generation BI solutions, QlikTech is also the fastest growing BI software company in the world for two years running (2004-2006) according to IDC.[3] QlikTech's revenue is growing at a rate of 80% annually.[citation needed]
