Qi Dao is a style of Tibetan Shamanic Qigong. It is a Qigong practice encompassing all six branch of Qigong using a four element (shamanic) system rather than the Chinese Five-Element system. Qi Dao focuses on "going with the flow" of energy (Qi) rather than cultivating Qi in particular parts of the body. The most characteristic practice of Qi Dao called "empowerment" and involves a practitioner having an intuitive experience of the flow of Qi through movement and awareness.
Qi Dao was cultivated in Russia for hundreds of years by the family of Lama Somananda Tantrapa. Accord to Lama Tantrapa, during the Stalin era, his grandfather used his Qi Dao martial arts and qigong skill in the Russian Special Forces, serving in Joseph Stalin's personal body guards. Lama Tantrapa practiced Qi Dao in Russia where he served in the Russian Special Forces, fought and was injured in Afghanistan, was an accomplished martial artist and suffered religions persecution before coming to the United States as a religious refugee. In the US, Lama Tantrapa claims to have studied with Tom Brown jr, Carlos Castaneda and various other new age teachers. Qi Dao has been taught most often in Portland, Oregon where Lama Tantrapa resided for seven years until July 2006, when he moved to Guam, USA where he currently resides. Qi Dao is currently taught in Portland, Oregon, Guam and possibly in Houston Texas.
