Qanaqer-Zeytun (Armenian: Քանաքեր-Զեյթուն, also spelled Kanaker-Zeytun) is a town in Armenia, located in the northeastern part of the Yerevan district.
This hill town is small, with a population of 102,700 and an area about 2,000 acres (8 km²). It consists mainly of one or two-storied houses, two ancient churches (the older on a hill in a cemetery, the other highly restored and in daily use). There is also nearby a medieval well. A nineteenth- century Russian church stands facing a Russian base on the road into Yerevan. The most famous people born in the area are Khachatur Abovian , Djivan Gasparyan, Ofelya Hambardzumyan and Zaqaria Qanaqertci.
Kanaker played a key role in the Russian siege of Yerevan in 1827. (There was until recently a monument in French in the Armenian church to the infant daughter of the Russian commander).
Zeytun was founded between 1946-1948 by Armenian repatriates who arrived from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Greece.
