Qa'em Shahr

Qa'em Shahr (Persian: قائمشهر), also spelt Qâemŝahr or Ghaemshahr, is a city in the Mazandaran province of Iran. Originally known as `Aliyabad, the name Ŝâhi (Shâhi) was used until the Iranian Revolution in 1979 when the city acquired it's current name.

It is situated 237 km north-east of Tehran; 20 km south-east of Babol; 23 kilometres south west of Sari which is the capital of Mazandaran province. In 1951 Qa'em Shahr's population was around 18,000, growing to 123,684 in 1991.
