Pyrokinesis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term pyrokinesis is derived from the Greek words πυρ (pûr, meaning "fire, lightning") and κίνησις (kínesis, meaning "motion"). It literally means "to move fire," but more commonly denotes the ability to create and manipulate fire using only the mind.

Pyrokinesis is present in many works of fiction, such as the Stephen King novel Firestarter. Many fictional characters from comic books also possess this technique. Two of Nintendo's most famous characters use pyrokinesis as well, Mario and Luigi(who has been shown to occasionaly manipulate electricity instead). Also, some certain characters, such as Marvel's Pyro, possess only the ability to control fire and cannot actually create it. Others, such as the Firebenders in the television show Avatar: The Last Airbender, can not only create fire but manipulate it in a variety of ways such as creating explosions.
