[edit] PA Routes

Hi. Yes, tagging the Talk page of any new articles you created with {{Pennsylvania State Highway WikiProject}} would be helpful for the WikiProject to keep track of articles and improve them. Thanks for all your contributions. --Polaron | Talk 12:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reply:Tony Stewart edit

Ahh, i saw that you had changed the number to 31 earlier, and then saw that number changed again so i undid it. Thanks. Caster23 21:58, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please use edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. (O - RLY?) 01:07, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: PA maps

It's a little complicated if you do not know anything about GIS. What I do is use Quantum GIS, grab some data, and mess around with it until the expected result is shown. (O - RLY?) 01:20, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Interstate 178

I have restored I-178 onto List of State Routes in Pennsylvania as there was an I-178 planned in Allentown. Here are two links to verify its existence.[1] [2]

[edit] Decommissioned routes

You've been creating a lot of articles on decommissioned routes. This is not a problem; however there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  1. pahighways.com is not a reliable source, and in my experience it has sometimes been off by a year or two. Instead you can use historic PennDOT maps: [3] and [4], some other maps on mapsofpa.com, especially this page, and other maps such as [5] and [6]. Unfortunately you will not usually be able to pin down a change to a specific year (also note that the historic county maps may "jump the gun" on openings); you may be able to find major changes in newspaper articles using the Google News Archive.
  2. In some cases, like PA 180, a route was entirely absorbed by or renumbered as another route. In these cases, you should merge the two articles and redirect PA 180 to PA 130, including information about the old PA 180 in the PA 130 article. When a route was mostly but not entirely absorbed, use your judgment on whether the short other portion can be mentioned in the merged article or the two articles should be left separate.
  3. If a number is currently in use for a non-PA Route, or has been used for multiple PA Routes, consider making a disambiguation page like Pennsylvania Route 19 after moving the old page to a disambiguated name like Pennsylvania Route 19 (1920s). This will ensure that those who are looking for the current route - in this case US 19 - but forget that it is a U.S. Route are able to find what they are looking for.
  4. Most routes that did not become part of another are actually now four-digit Quadrant Routes ("State Route X"); you can find those on the current County Type 10 Maps.

Much of this is just my opinion, but it worked well for state highways in Virginia; you may want to take a look at those articles for more guidance. In that case, I had detailed meeting minutes since the 1920s to work with; if you're in or near Pennsylvania, you may be able to visit PennDOT offices and view their historical documents. --NE2 06:34, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit warring on Lenny Dykstra

I have semi-protected the page - that will keep IPs and newly registered accounts from editing the page for the next week. Please use that time to come to consensus, which there clearly isn't. Good luck! - Philippe | Talk 21:54, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Archive

You accidentally moved some part of your archive into the main wikipedia namespace instead of in the user namespace. Andante1980 10:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect of Pennsylvania Route 202 (1920s)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Pennsylvania Route 202 (1920s), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Pennsylvania Route 202 (1920s) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Pennsylvania Route 202 (1920s), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Quality first

Hello. Not that we don't appreciate your work (we need as many editors as we can get), but right now as a project we've been focusing on quality of articles before quantity. Perhaps instead of making some new articles, you could take a break and go back to some older ones and expand some beyond a few sentences? Check out Pennsylvania Route 145 for some ideas. You might also be interested in seeing the statistics at WP:USRD/A and WP:USRD/A/WW - currently nearly 70% of all U.S. roads articles are Stub-class (the lowest class)! Thanks for your understanding and help in raising the bar at USRD.—Scott5114 07:21, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with Scott5114. While your creation of PA Route articles are good, what we need to focus on is quality, not quantity (as USRD already has lots of quantity). Thanks, —O () 03:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Expansion after creation is still not a good idea. Scott and yours truly would appreciate it more if you'd improve the quality of articles rather than creating more [possible perma-]stubs. Thanks, —O () 03:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] USRD Inactivity check and news report

Hello, PYLrulz. We had a few urgent matters to communicate to you:

  1. Please update your information at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, our new centralized participant list. Those who have not done so by October 20th will be removed.
  2. There are important discussions taking place at WT:USRD relating to whether WP:USRD, WP:HWY, or the state projects should hold the "power" in the roads projects.

Regards, Rschen7754 (T C) 23:28, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] U.S. Route 30 reverts

Hey, I've seen the two reverts that you made. On the second revert, I noticed that you placed a {{uw-test1}} template on the IP's talk. In this particular case, the edit that the IP made was in good faith, and I would like you to be more cautious when posting messages. Thanks, —O () 20:49, 28 September 2007 (GMT)

FYI, you don't have to put in a bunch of spaces to branch around a photo, you can do a brace-brace-clear-brace-brace, like this:

[edit] Trivia tag

What rule requires the use of a trivia tag? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 12:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I still don't see a rule that requires it. No question that in this case, the info could easily be woven into the article. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 13:54, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I think the "trouble" he could get into by deleting it once is minimal. In any case, when I get a chance, unless someone beats me to it, I'll try to work the info into the article. Most of it centers on a date or time period, so it shouldn't be difficult. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 01:12, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Aha. Thanks for supplying the rrrrrest of the story! Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 12:49, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
