Talk:Putrajaya
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An observation -- should people whose first language isn't English write or edit English Wikipedia pages? Shouldn't they rather be writing or editing, say, Malay pages?? Much of what is on this page currently is linguistic garbage. I will help to clean it up when I can. -- London UK user
Just clean up the page, hope you guys are ok...

It would be great if someone could post the flags for the federal territories. It would be much appreciated.

[edit] eww...this page desperately needs a cleanup.
it's embarrassing that an article about malaysia's administrative capital contains so many glaring grammatical/linguistic errors in its sentences.
to the chap who wrote the said sentences, i know you mean well, but for pete's sake please lay off writing articles in english if you're not fluent in the language.
[edit] Removed sentence
I've removed this:
- The city is simillar than Washington DC in the United States,Brasilia in Brazil and Canberra in Australia.
Similar in what way? __earth 13:37, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
- That's enough already. I already edited it before to say it was analogous to those place, which it patently is. It now states how it is analogous to those cities. If that isn't enough and you want to revert it again, I will request arbitration/review. Alex.tan 09:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Putrajaya monorail
Doesn't anyone find it odd that we have an article for the suspension bridge but not the monorail? I appreciate it has been temporarily paused (I believe it's been restarted now though?) but I think we should have an article Nil Einne 15:19, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- The article has been created, although it took a foreigner to do what is supposed to be perfectly suited for Malaysians. You people (Malaysians in general) should be ashamed of yourselves. - Two hundred percent 06:02, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Analogies
- As a city created to be an administrative centre of a country, Putrajaya is analogous to Washington DC in the United States, Canberra in Australia, Brasilia in Brazil, Astana in Kazakhstan, and Pretoria in South Africa.
I have removed the above containing analogies primarily because IMHO, none of them are particularly good. While Putrajaya shares some similarities with these, there are many differences. Washington DC, Canberra, Brasilia and Astana are all planned administrative capitals AFAIK however they are also the judicial, legislative and capital cities of their respective countries while Putrajaya is not. Washington DC and Canberra (dunno about the rest) shares the similarity that they are relatively small cities and economically not as important as other larger cities e.g. Sydney in Australia however this feature is not that uncommon, e.g. Wellington is the same in NZ. If you can find a good analogy then you're welcome to include it. However if not, I suggest just improve the article if necessary to clarify what Putrajaya is (although IMHO it's good enough) and leave it as is. Analogies should generally be avoided in encylopedias IMHO because they are often misleading or selective. For example, some people like to compare sizes of countries to states of America but while useful for Americans, it's not particularly useful for anyone else. Instead, it is far better if we just precisely explain what something is. Nil Einne 18:44, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
