Puthanampatti – Once upon a time, this place was called as ‘Punathai’.

As of 2001 India census, Puthanampatti had a population of 3,163. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Puthanampatti has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 55%, and female literacy is 45%. In Puthanampatti, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Puthanampatti is located about 30 KM away from the Rock City - Trichy in North West, about 14 KM away from Thuraiyur in South East and about 35 KM away in South West from Perambalur.

Nehru Memorial College is one of the famous institute in TamilNadu. Most of the students from the nearby districts were studied in this college and placed in good jobs. This college was found by Shri M. Mookkappillai and inauguration done by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. C.N. Annadurai in 1967. This college is affiliated to the Bharathidasan University, Trichirappalli.

Nehru Higher Secondary School is another institute in this village and this was found by same Shri. M. Mookkappillai in 1947. The students around this village is gained based on these two institutions.

This village also has the Sri Sanmuganatha Elementary School and Mooga Nursery School.

Jayaram Engineering College is located just ten kilometers from Puthanampatti.

Puthanampatti is well connected by road with the neighbouring town Thuraiyur and district capital Trichy. The nearest railway station is Trichy, about 35 km from Puthanampatti. The nearest airport is also at Trichy.
